Year 2018

We’ve moved!

Our new house – ours is the right-hand one

The year 2018 has been an eventful year for the senior Selkirks,  dominated by one major event – we have moved house.  After 47 years in North London at Hampstead, we have left our wonderful family house in Nassington Road and have moved to a much smaller house in west London, in Kew.  The impetus for the move came from our son Robert and Libby, who decided that after four years in France, it was time to return to England and put the children into English schools and the English school system and we are hoping that they will buy another family house near to us in Kew. If all goes well, we hope we will end up by having all three children and all four grandchildren within walking distance!

Lunch on the terrace

It is been a big wrench, but we are now settling into our new house which has a wonderful conservatory at the back, facing south on to a small garden and very sunny, and we are very happy with our choice. (More)

Apart from this it has been a quiet year.  We went out to France for a week in April which was fun.  Robert and Libby are keeping the chateau on and will decamp there in the holidays.  For the rest of the year they may to rent it out, or it will be available for granny and grandpa to visit! (More, mostly children!)

To Spain

The Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s amazing masterpiece.

We did not do our usual Greek trip in the summer as we were too busy showing potential buyers around our house.

However in November we had an unexpected trip to Spain where I was invited to be one of the judges for a Spanish archaeological award. Both  Wendy and I were both invited out to Barcelona where we stayed in a very posh hotel and spent two days doing the judging and then three days looking round Barcelona – including the Sagrada Familia – Gaudi’s amazing masterpiece – click here for  why I was overwhelmed .  We then went on to Italy where I spent a day looking round Pompeii and then two days at my usual conference in Paestum.

Clarence Road is a very narrow cul-de-sac. Cars are parked on the pavement and there is no turning at the far end – you have to back out. But it is very friendly!

We are now more-or-less settling down in our new home. I have done a website: which shows some photos both of our old house in Nassington Road, and of our house in Kew.  But if ever you are in west London, do come and visit us.  Our our new address is 16 Clarence Road, Richmond, TW9 3NL and our new phone number is (020) 8940 4678. We are only 400 yards away from the Kew Gardens tube station, so we are very accessible from central London.
